Indianapolis · Airway · TMJ · Craniofacial asymmetry

Everybody has two faces.

Mirror the left half of any face onto itself, then the right half, and two different people appear. Dr. Timothy Adams reads that difference, and treats the airway, the jaw and the face as one structure.

What he reads, in the first minuteWhat he reads first

  • Orbital plane
  • Otic plane
  • Occlusal plane
  • Midline

The face is a map.

Four planes, read by eye before any scan: the eyes, the ears, where the teeth meet, and the midline. Turn the head, and see what he is looking for.

What he treats

Nine reasons people come, and one structure underneath them.

Most arrive with a list: the headaches, the clicking, the snoring, the neck. He treats what those things are standing on.

01Headaches and migrainesYears of them, often through the temples and behind the eyes, with a jaw nobody connected to it.
How he reads for it
  1. 01Headaches and migrainesYears of them, often through the temples and behind the eyes, with a jaw nobody connected to it.
  2. 02TMJ: clicking, popping, lockingA joint that is not level with the other, seated on a temporal bone that has rotated.
  3. 03Snoring and sleep apneaA narrow upper arch, no room for the tongue, and a night spent hunting for air.
  4. 04A CPAP you cannot wearFor the patients who tried and could not keep it on, an appliance worn only at night.
  5. 05Forward head posture and the neckThe head comes forward to find air, and the neck carries it there all day.
  6. 06Ringing ears, fullness, dizzinessThe ear sits on the same bone as the jaw joint. They travel together more often than not.
  7. 07Mouth breathingNose breathing makes nitric oxide and puts the tongue back in the palate. Supplements do not replace it.
  8. 08Grinding and clenchingNot a habit to be padded with a night guard, but a bite looking for a home to go to.
  9. 09Facial asymmetry and the ageing faceOne eye higher, one ear further out, a chin that drifts. The reason many patients arrive.

One patient each morning.

The whole practice is built around a single visitor a day, and the years of care after it.

Most people arrive after years of being treated one symptom at a time. He reads the airway, the jaw and the face as one structure, and treats the structure.

Dr. Timothy Adams mid-laugh in conversation

In his words

“I treat airway and TMJ combined because I look at something totally different. I look at craniofacial asymmetry. And that affects everything.”

One side of the face narrower than the other. One ear out a little more, at a different level. A jaw that goes to one side on opening. One eye a little higher. The appliance that changes it is worn at night, and only at night.

In patients’ words

“Never dreamed an appliance could give these results.”
